Join me at JW Social Media website

Hello Readers!

When I started this Just {BE} blog about a year ago, I wanted it to be a “one stop shop”. I wanted to write about anything I love and passionate about….anything goes, no rules, no limits.

At first thought, it was a good idea. I can just write about anything in one spot. I don’t like to be restricted with anything I do. But after a while, being around different things, seeing and hearing different perspectives, it made more sense to separate things.

When I had my first-ever blog about 6 years ago, I treated that more like an online journal. Guess what?! That’s how blogs used to be back then. Without the help of social media or Triberr or anything that helps drive traffic to your site, your blogs don’t really have a good chance of being read.

But fast forward to today, I created JW Social Media since my networks are getting more broad, I need to have a blog that reaches different audience. I don’t want to bother my social media network about a food recipe, or a local restaurant or wine review and vice-versa.

So yes, as much as defied what I read a year ago, about a blog needing to have more focus, I am now admitting a year later, that a blog should have some type of direction. On that note, I’m revamping my site and for starters, I’m separating out any posts I have about social media and putting them on my JW Social Media website. I’m working on a foodie blog too, but maybe in a few months. I’ll keep you posted.

So, please make sure to visit me at my new site, OK? I’m starting fresh there and I need some comments. Your pictures will show up in my “Top Commenters” spot, I promise! 😉

Be well!

My blog about Social Media

Will Libraries Be Someday A Thing Of The Past?

This morning I had a nice time with my son at the library.  We borrowed some movies, and yes, they were free, a Wii game, that was free too, and of course we borrowed some books, free!  We even got a cup of hot chocolate for him while I enjoyed a nice gourmet cup of coffee, and it only cost us $1.50 for both!

We sat in front of a nice, warm, fireplace.  It was very cozy.  We talked about the books we got, while we sip on our beverages.  We had a really nice bonding moment.

Then when it was time to go, the librarian, who was very cheerful, scanned our library card and checked out all our books.  Then off we go to start our day of basketball…that may be another blog post.  🙂

In any event, I love the homey feeling I get every time I go to the library — nice chairs to lounge at, the fireplace, the coffee, nice and friendly people and wall to wall books.  Ohhh and I love the hunt?  You know, when you want to read a certain type of book, you go to the computer (I know, no more card catalogs, how many of you remember them?!) and type in your search words, and it gives you the number of the book, it’s 618.73.  You go to the aisle that has, 600.58 – 701.28, and look for 618.73, and there it is!  You found it!  YEAY!

OK, so gone are the days of card catalogs, computers took over.   My local Borders, just last month announced that they were going out of business.  People are downloading eBooks, Kindles are becoming more and more popular, then there’s the iPad, my favorite.  How many of you are salivating over the new release of iPad 2?  I am!!!

So with all this new technology, do you foresee libraries following suit just like all the book stores and rental video stores that are closing?  What are your thoughts on this subject?

Learning Something New

Have you ever felt at times you have it all together…you know exactly, what you’re going to do and know just how to go about doing it?  Yet sometimes, you feel so out of control and so unsure about which to do first?  Well, the latter is how I feel right now.

I really just planned to look at different Themes on WordPress and decide which one to go with so I can create a new website/blog for me.  What?  I know, I already have this blog why do I need another one.  I’m a girl!  I can’t have just one!  🙂

But anyway, I find myself so distracted about different things I’m reading.  You know how it is, you read something then there’s a link.  You click on the link, then it takes you to another link.  It’s like the battle of the links!

Sometimes I can stay focused and just read what I need to and ignore the links.  But there are times, when I just have to click on the links and several hours have passed and felt that I haven’t accomplished anything, except feel a bit overwhelmed.

All is not lost though.  Because at the end of the day, I found that I have learned so much from clicking all those different links.  It brought me to different websites which I found very informative, sometimes even funny, and some are like, what the heck?!  But I did learn!  So I guess despite of all of that.  I did learn something, well, a lot of new things!

How about you?  Are you “link clicker happy”?  Or do you feel that you can avoid clicking on the links and still get all the needed information that you need?  Are you able to stay focused?  What do you do when you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed and feel like you haven’t or aren’t accomplishing anything?

I think I’m going to get myself a cup of tea and grab a book for a bit.  There are no links to click there!

Just Google It!

How often do you hear someone say or you’ve found yourself say, “just google it”!?  If you’re like me, the answer would be umpteenth times!

But that’s the truth!

If you want to learn something you can find it on the internet.  It’s right there, right at your fingertips!  You just have to know what to type in your google search box.  Thus the verb, “google it”, as in….”research it on the internet!”

Over the weekend, our garage door opener broke and rather than hiring someone to get it fixed, my husband learned about it from YouTube.  There were several videos available with  step by step instructions on how to get it fixed.  But this video,  Garage Door Spring Repair, was the one he found to be most helpful.  So with an $80 purchase from Menard’s plus an hour of his time, the garage door is fixed!  I realize that hiring someone to fix it would have probably cost less, but, he learned something new.  And knowledge is sexy!  😉

Speaking of which, I also want to learn something new….and that is, how to create a website through WordPress.  I have dabbled on web creation in the past.  But something just out of the box with very minimal tweaking like from iWeb.  Take a look at this Wonderful Lashes website I created myself.  It was very easy to do.  So if you have a Mac, this is something you can easily create.

So going back to WordPress.  WordPress is great because they have several themes and lots of beautiful designs to choose from.  Two of the themes I’m currently looking into are Thesis and Genesis.  Doing some research right now so I can write about my journey and will keep you posted.

And like I said, you can pretty much learn how to do everything….just google it!

So how about you?  Do you google?  When was the last time you googled?  And what did you google?  I want to hear your experience with google!  Do tell…
